Match Day

Lineup editor

Build match lineups visually on a full-scale pitch, drag players into position, plan substitutions with time-based segments, and assign your saved lineup to any match.

Opening the lineup editor

From Match Center, open a match's detail page and click Open Lineup Editor. You can also create a standalone lineup from the Teams page by clicking on a team and selecting New Lineup. Give the lineup a name (e.g. "4-3-3 vs. Athletic FC") so you can reuse it for future matches.

The pitch and layout

The lineup editor displays a full landscape pitch scaled to real football proportions (105m × 68m). Your team always occupies the bottom half of the pitch — from your goal line up to the halfway line. Player slots are arranged to reflect actual field positions, from goalkeeper at the bottom to forwards near midfield.

The pitch is displayed alongside a bench column on the right. Players who haven't been placed on the pitch appear here as bench cards. The layout is always width-constrained so it renders correctly on both desktop and tablet screens.

Dragging players into position

  1. 1Player cards start on the bench on the right side. Each card shows the player's name, jersey number, and preferred position.
  2. 2Drag a player card from the bench and drop it onto a position slot on the pitch. Slots snap to a grid aligned with standard football positions.
  3. 3To move a player already on the pitch, drag them to a new slot. The old slot returns to empty.
  4. 4To return a player to the bench, drag them off the pitch and drop them onto the bench area.

The snap-to-grid system ensures every player lands cleanly in a recognized position slot. If you drop a player between slots, they'll snap to the nearest valid slot automatically.

Switching formations

Click the Formation button in the editor toolbar to pick from common formations (4-4-2, 4-3-3, 3-5-2, 4-2-3-1, and more). Switching formation rearranges the position slots on the pitch. Players currently assigned to slots will be moved to the closest matching position in the new formation, or returned to the bench if no match is found. Review assignments after switching.

Saving your lineup

Click Save Lineup in the toolbar. The lineup is saved to your team and can be reused for any match. To assign a saved lineup to a match, open the match detail page and select a lineup from the Lineup section.

The substitution planner

The substitution planner lets you define planned substitutions organized by time segment (e.g. 0–30 min, 30–60 min, 60–90 min). Open it by clicking Substitution Planner in the editor toolbar.

  1. 1Click Add Segment to define a time block (e.g. "Half 1: 0–40 min").
  2. 2Within each segment, assign which players start and which come on as substitutes.
  3. 3Add as many segments as needed to plan the full 90 minutes.

The substitution plan is saved alongside the lineup and is particularly useful for youth coaches managing game time fairness across a large squad.

Tip: Create a few named "template" lineups (one per formation you use regularly) before the season starts. Before each match, duplicate the closest template, adjust for confirmed availability, and assign it to the match. This saves significant prep time during the week.
Note: The substitution planner is a Pro feature. Free plan users can build full starting lineups but cannot create time-segment substitution plans.
